My name is Jim Fogarty and you're very welcome here on my website.

Artwork wise, I am self taught and have no formal artistic qualifications or training whatsoever, but please don't let that put you off!

I believe that learning by trial and error and more importantly, through practice, you often stumble across techniques of your own that you'd otherwise likely never discover. I've been drawing pretty much ever since I was old enough to hold a pencil and unfortunately these days, that makes for an awful lot of doodling! So I have stumbled across one or two things along the way. Throw into that a serious obsession for detail and it's little wonder that my working days are regularly far from as simple as they could be!

So fear not if it's seriously detailed artwork you're looking for, you might be in the right place after all!

This website basically showcases what is a fairly diverse spread of artwork. Having worked my way through pencil drawing, book illustration, custom guitars and airbrush work, I'm now also working on larger projects and some three dimensional sculptural work as well. So hopefully there should be something here for everybody.

 

Hopefully the answer to that is information.

Obviously one of the main reasons for this web site is to show off my work to a 'hopefully' appreciative and of course detail obsessed world! But more than that, to also show something of the processes involved in custom painting.

The reasoning behind this is two-fold. Firstly, most people considering commissioning this kind of work are unlikely to be aware of the many stages and processes involved. By seeing many of these painting stages on the site, prospective customers have the opportunity to see and hopefully understand some of the techniques likely to be used on their project. The second reason for showing so many stages of the process, is purely for information. If like me you're a bit of a fanatic where detailed custom artwork is concerned, then you'll hopefully find it interesting to see how some of that artwork is actually created. It really is as simple as that.

I spend many hours looking at custom artwork websites seeing how like minded people go about their work. It's a great way to learn and develop your own skills and techniques. Because of that I decided to show many of the working stages of some of my own projects in the 'Fresh Paint' and 'Step by Step' sections of this website.

The 'Fresh Paint' section featuring currently unfinished projects through the various stages of the painting process. The 'Guitar Painting - Step by Step' section, featuring already completed projects through many of their prepping, painting and finishing stages.

Another fairly recent addition to the site is the 'Frequently Asked Questions' (F.A.Q.s), page. Hopefully all these pages will help to pass on some hopefully relevant and interesting information.

It's all about the detail and the artwork!

Most artists have their own style, preferences and favored techniques very often completely unique to themselves.

It therefore makes sense when considering any custom artwork, to first look for someone specialising in the particular type of artwork you're looking to get done. My personal speciality is fine detailed artwork and I try to push the boundaries wherever possible by experimenting and trying new techniques for applying extremely fine detail to my work. I don't ever use stencils. So all my artwork is totally original custom artwork, always unique, always a one off. I also take greatest pride in the attention to detail applied to every stage of my work.

Because of this my work may often take slightly longer to complete and can cost slightly more. But quality is the bottom line here, 'pretty good' or 'almost perfect' just won't do!
